HOUSTON – Thousands of runners hit the streets of Houston Sunday morning as the 2026 Chevron Houston Marathon got underway, continuing a tradition that has grown from humble beginnings into one of the city’s premier sporting events.
What started as a small local run in 1972 with fewer than 200 participants has evolved into a major international event that now attracts more than 25,000 runners from across the globe.
Race Day Schedule
The day began with the first wave of runners departing at 7 a.m., followed by the half marathon at 7:15 a.m. Wheelchair and handcycle participants started their race at 7:20 a.m., while the full marathon field took off at 7:30 a.m.
Awards ceremonies are scheduled for 1 p.m. at the plaza.
