A groom whose opulent $59 million wedding in Paris captivated social media has pleaded guilty to shooting at police in North Texas.

Jacob LaGrone, 31, who faced life in prison, was granted deferred adjudication and placed on probation for seven years. In a statement, Tarrant County District Attorney Phil Sorrells said “justice was achieved” with LaGrone’s three guilty pleas to aggravated assault of a public servant.

“Our office carefully evaluated the facts, the evidence, and the likely trial outcomes before reaching this resolution,” he said. “We support the officers involved and remain grateful that none were physically injured.”

Sorrells added that LaGrone will be supervised “under strict conditions” but did not provide additional details. Deferred adjudication typically allows people to have a charge expunged from their record if they complete probation without violations. Previously, the district attorney’s office offered LaGrone a 25-year prison sentence as part of a plea deal, which he rejected.

LaGrone’s case unfolded in March 2023, when police in Westworth Village, a small suburb of Fort Worth, responded to a home after receiving multiple disturbance calls. When they arrived, LaGrone fired a gun at officers. He was later released on a $20,000 bond.

Officials in Westworth Village did not immediately respond to an email or phone call Friday seeking comment about LaGrone’s probation.

Months after firing at officers, in November 2023, LaGrone wed Madelaine Brockway in an event dubbed the “wedding of the century” on social media, where videos and photos of the five-day affair circulated. The wedding included an overnight stay at the Palace of Versailles, a rehearsal dinner at the French capital’s Opera House, a private lunch at the Chanel Haute Couture Suite and a performance by Maroon 5.

The bride’s father, Bob Brockway, owns a group of Mercedes-Benz dealerships in Florida but lives in the Fort Worth area. A wedding registry for the couple included a $12,500 crystal butterfly house, $860 gravy boat and $430 figurine of a cowboy rabbit.

Following the wedding, the couple reportedly settled in the Fort Worth area. It is not known whether they plan to remain in North Texas.

On Friday, Jeff Kearney, an attorney for LaGrone, said in a statement that “Jacob and his family look forward to moving on to the next chapter of their life.”
