The Spurs had one of their ugliest games of the year on offense last night, just barely scoring 100 on the Celtics in Boston, but on the other hand, the defense was pretty good, holding the league’s best offense to just 95 points, which tied their lowest output of the season. The injury report for the Spurs looks the same as last night, with Devin Vassell out with an adductor strain and with Victor Wembanyama on a minutes restriction as he recovers from the knee hyperextension he suffered on New Year’s Eve against the Knicks.
It’s only the 11th day of January, and the Spurs are playing in their third back-to-back, which concludes tonight. In fact, all of the games for the Silver and Black have been back to back games, and after tonight, they will have a day off and travel to Oklahoma City to try and win their fourth game over the Thunder this season. But before that game, they will need to take on the Timberwolves, who also played yesterday, a 146-134 early afternoon shootout with the Cleveland Cavaliers. If there’s a rest advantage, it probably favors the Timberwolves, whose game was played about 6 hours before the Spurs/Celtics game.
The Spurs will have to contain Anthony Edwards tonight in order to have a shot at winning, I doubt the Spur can hold Minnesota under 100, so they will need one or more of their shooters to break out of the team-wide shooting slump and hit some long range shots. I’m looking for a big offensive game from Victor Wembanyama tonight, but it might have to be really big for a win. Let’s watch and see what happens. GO Spurs GOO!!!
Rudy Gobert will be assessed a delay of game after he spends 30 seconds cursing at Victor Wembanyama in French after his shot is blocked out of bounds.
