A Texas location will be impacted by another wave of Macy’s store closures, as the major department store chain continues its “Bold New Chapter” initiative to “return the company to sustainable, profitable sales growth.” The plan, which was announced in 2024, seeks to close 150 underperforming stores by the end of this year.
“A Bold New Chapter serves as a strong call to action,” Macy’s CEO Tony Spring said in 2024. “It challenges the status quo to create a more modern Macy’s, Inc. We are making the necessary moves to reinvigorate relationships with our customers through improved shopping experiences, relevant assortments and compelling value. Our teams are energized by the work ahead as we accelerate our path to market share gains, sustainable, profitable growth and value creation for our shareholders.”
Here’s what to know about the affected locations.
The Macy’s location inside Corpus Christi’s La Palmera Mall is among those closing soon, according to the company’s website. The listing does not include a specific closing date.
The location was originally a Foley’s department store beginning in the mid-1980s, MySA reports. After Foley’s was acquired by Federated Department Stores in 2005, the entire chain was rebranded as Macy’s.
Macy’s “Bold New Chapter” strategy appears to be paying off. A December 2025 report revealed the company had seen its best earnings in over three years.
“Our third quarter sales were the strongest in 13 quarters, reflecting the acceleration of our Bold New Chapter strategy and demonstrating that the meaningful enterprise-wide changes we’ve made are resonating with customers,” Spring said.
Last year, five other Texas locations closed in Southlake, Fairview, Flower Mound, Houston and Fort Worth. These were among the approximately 66 stores that shuttered across the country. In 2024, somewhere between 50 and 55 locations closed.
The following 14 locations across 12 states are slated for closure early this year:
The Lone Star State currently has around 31 Macy’s stores in operation, including two in Austin.
