Texas is a state filled to the brim with urban legends, haunted locales, ghosts lurking around the corner, and almost every other form of paranormal phenomenon. One could argue that the Lone Star State is a hub of paranormal activity.

In a state with so much haunted history and so many terrifying experiences, it’s easy to imagine that some of its cities would stand out as among the spookiest in the nation.

NapLab recently released the results of a study into the U.S. Cities Most Likely To Give You Nightmares. Three cities in Texas made it inside the top 15.

El Paso’s Haunted Legacy

El Paso ranked 15th in the nation due to the number of haunted locations it has. One of the most haunted places in Texas, the Plaza Theater, calls El Paso home. There have been numerous reports of various ghosts and activity at this iconic spot.

Supposedly, the most haunted place in El Paso is Gravity Hill. According to legend, a woman and her children died on that stretch of road and now haunt it.

The story goes that if you have your car in neutral, the ghostly kids will push it up the hill. Supposedly, no one can agree on what their motives are, but that doesn’t stop it from being terrifying.

McAllen: Spiders, Cemeteries & Shadows

McAllen ranked 14th, and for very good reason. It ranked really high for its number of cemeteries and varieties of venomous spider species.

There are haunted stretches of road, chapels, manors, and even a supposedly haunted playground in the area around McAllen. It’s a definite paranormal hotspot.

San Antonio: The Top Nightmare Hub

The town most fueled by nightmare fuel in the state of Texas is San Antonio. It isn’t hard to imagine. It is home to something called the Alamo, after all.

Beyond the Alamo, supposedly, San Antonio is home to several haunted hotels, a haunted governor’s palace, theaters, railroads, and just about every other type of place a ghost might hide.

Of course, the most haunted location in San Antonio is widely believed to be the Alamo. It makes sense. If dying in a traumatic way is one of the ingredients in becoming a ghost, the Alamo has a surplus.

This Halloween, if you’re in Texas, you won’t have to go too far to find some terror-inducing thrills.

Don’t be alarmed by the signs but perhaps lock your doors, and don’t stop to talk to strangers… https://img.particlenews.com/image.php?url=0EATep_15nsJJ6N00Alex Salinas-TSMCheapside:This Way-Maybe?Finding Cheapside is quite tricky. Although there are tons of signs, this ghost town has tons of small dirt roads and turns that could easily get an out-of-towner lost in the boonies. https://img.particlenews.com/image.php?url=4Qapra_15nsJJ6N00Alex Salinas-TSMGone and Never ReturnedBarbed wire fencing surrounded the entire area clearly indicating visitors are not welcomed…The house sits on a good amount of land and even had a shed, it’s a wonder why someone would just leave and never return…The land is still owned by someone and even had cattle equipment nearby, so if you go by remember, look but do not touch! https://img.particlenews.com/image.php?url=3zVZFs_15nsJJ6N00Alex Salinas-TSMA Squatters ParadiseAlas! As you venture down the appropriate dirt road you will creep up to the first house in this diminished neighborhood of Cheapside. House number one sat openly with no doors. Those who have managed to creep into this house in the past have reported making their stay quick and didn’t want to impose; there were some sleeping bags that could possibly point to this being a squatters pad-this is a NO NO people. https://img.particlenews.com/image.php?url=0ftiQn_15nsJJ6N00Alex Salinas-TSMTraveling Into Unknown TerritoryThe roads in the old neighborhood had all the spooky vibes. The trees created a tunnel-like effect that made it feel like you are traveling into unknown territory-not too far off, I guess. https://img.particlenews.com/image.php?url=44D1RT_15nsJJ6N00Alex Salinas-TSMFamily Home of the UnknownIt’s hard To imagine why someone would just leave this house and let it diminish. This home was quite large and looks like it had a pick-it fence wrap around the home at one point. Now, the home sadly sits enclosed in barbed wire and cactus plants. https://img.particlenews.com/image.php?url=0jU6QU_15nsJJ6N00Alex Salinas-TSMSuper SUS ChimneyOnly the mind could imagine what this house looked like in its prime. The only thing that is left is the crumbling remains of a chimney. Luckily we got the scoop from super local and knowledgeable Marge Cacir who informed us of the ugly truth. The owners of this property decided to tear the house down because people kept breaking into the property. One incident pushed the owners past their comfort level after a trespasser found a report card from a little girl named Beverly, and broadcasted it to the public. After the intrusion of privacy, the owners felt the best thing to do was get rid of everything, so they tore it down.

Now, this shed is not in the best of conditions. After talking to some County locals turns out this brick building was once a store. https://img.particlenews.com/image.php?url=09VyHr_15nsJJ6N00Alex Salinas-TSMDays of the PastThe once-standing shed could have easily stored your everyday essential items that a community would need. Those days are long gone for this poor ol’ shed. https://img.particlenews.com/image.php?url=2fqsrH_15nsJJ6N00Alex Salinas-TSMStore No MoreThis store is a thing of the past. It’s pretty big in size, I could imagine this being the community grocery store. Back in the day, this was a community church, and the men of the community built it. Around the 1940s, a Baptist pastor would come on the 1st, 3rd, and 5th Sunday, then the 2nd and 4th Presbyterian pastor would come for service. The church currently has regular service with a pastor and student pastor, so it is running and fully functioning. https://img.particlenews.com/image.php?url=2HN8ln_15nsJJ6N00Alex Salinas-TSM1949 SchoolhouseRight next to the church is a schoolhouse that had a fully functioning school there until 1949.
