The public will get an update at 3 p.m. on Monday. Gilbert Trejo, VP of Operations and Technical Services for El Paso Water, will be speaking from the El Paso Regional Communications Center in Northeast El Paso. At this time, it’s unknown if city officials will participate in the news conference like they did Sunday afternoon.

As KTSM 9 News previously reported, the water main break happened at around 10 p.m. on Saturday near the intersection of Girl Scout Way and Transmountain, near Skyline Park.

As of Sunday, the break impacted about 38,000 customer connections, totaling 100,000 people in Northeast El Paso and Central El Paso. People have been left without water service or with low pressure, according to officials.

Multiple school campuses and businesses were closed on Monday due to the break. At this time, it is unknown when they will open or if more establishments will close.

Water distribution sites are available at Sue Young Park, Arlington Park, Sunrise Park, and Chisolm Park. The following sites were added on Monday: North Skies Park, Veterans Park, and Chapin High School.

If you know of a disabled or elderly individual who is not able to make it out to the site, call (915) 594-5500, and EP Water can schedule a water delivery.

In addition, the boil water notice remains in place as of Monday in “abundance of precaution,” according to EP Water.

“This is a precautionary public health measure required when the system pressure drops. Low pressure can allow contaminants to enter the system, even if we have no evidence that it occurred,” EP Water said via Facebook.

Water that is not boiled can still be used to bathe.
