New Deal ISD celebrating the opening of new elementary and middle school

  • January 13, 2026

NEW DEAL, Texas (KCBD) – New Deal ISD superintendent Matt Reed has been working with the district’s school board since 2019 to come up with a plan for a brand new facility.

While New Deal’s old facility certainly served its purpose, things needed to change.

“It was built for that time frame during the 1930’s,” Reed said. “Technology has changed, security has changed.”

A $48.5-million bond proposal passed in 2021 to help transform the district. $37 million of that went to specifically building a new elementary and middle school and now, New Deal’s students are seeing what’s like to be a part of a massive upgrade.

One side of the building hosts kindergarten through fourth graders and the other hosts fifth through eighth graders, featuring some important elements the previous building didn’t have.

“The gym is a tornado shelter,” Reed said. “This campus also has its own cafeteria which we haven’t had in the past, we’ve had to share a district-wide cafeteria. We also have our band hall on this campus for the entire district.”

The new campus also features top-of-the-line security, along with yellow, green and gray colored hallways to make sure kids find their way around easier.

“As one of our kids said as I was giving him a tour,” Reed said, “he told I feel like I’m walking in the future when I come in this building.”

Reed says this upgrade was meant to not only accommodate the growth seen in New Deal in recent years, but to take care of the students and faculty that will be roaming the hallways and believes this is a big step in the right direction for the future of new deal.

“To get to be the first group of kids and the first group of staff in this building that will be here for 100 years,” Reed said, “it’s just a huge milestone for our community and our district and we’re so happy to be a part of it.”
