Residents in Collin County may see low-flying helicopters and increased police activity over the next three nights as the Texas Department of Public Safety holds “real-world” training exercises in Allen and McKinney.
The Texas DPS Aircraft Operations Division said the exercises will take place Tuesday through Thursday, Jan. 13–15, from 6 p.m. to 1 a.m. each night.
According to the DPS, the multi-agency training will include tactical flight officer exercises involving low-flying helicopters. Residents may also see an increased law enforcement presence and a mock vehicle pursuit during the nighttime drills.
“These exercises are planned, controlled, and not related to any active incident,” the Texas DPS said. “Training in real-world environments allows participating agencies to strengthen coordination, improve response times, and ensure officers are prepared to protect the public safely and effectively.”
The agency said the goal of the training is to better prepare officers for real-world situations.
