Emily Walthrop, Court Administrator for Nueces County, said the well-being of jurors is a priority for the local court system.

“We definitely appreciate jury service — we cannot run the court system without them,” Walthrop said. “Their emotional well-being is important to us, and we will take care of our jurors.”

Officials said some cases can take a lasting emotional toll, especially those involving disturbing testimony or evidence.

Counseling services are available on a case-by-case basis and are typically determined by the judge overseeing the trial..

Court leaders said similar support programs have been used in the past, though the need has not arisen in recent years. Trained therapists remain on standby to provide assistance when requested or deemed necessary.

Officials encourage jurors who experience emotional or mental strain following their service to contact the court system about available resources.
