Firefighters said it took them more than an hour to put out a fire at a vacant junior high school in Arlington early Wednesday morning.
Smoke was seen by firefighters coming from the roof of the former Carter Junior High School at 701 Tharp St. around 12:04 a.m., the Arlington Fire Department said in a news release.
The building was vacant and undergoing demolition, firefighters said.
A second alarm was called due to the building’s size and construction. Firefighters said the fire was then upgraded to a third alarm as fire conditions worsened and spread internally on the second and third floors.
