A Texas A&M freshman will be taking a drive west on 21 prior to the 2026 football season.

On Wednesday Aggies offensive lineman Jonte Newman told On3 Sports that he’ll be committing to Texas for next season. Newman announced he’d be entering the transfer portal on Jan. 9.

The 6-6, 315-pound tackle will have four years of eligibility remaining.

Newman was a four-star recruit as a freshman in the Class of 2025 who committed to the Aggies out of Bridgeland High School in Cypress. He was a top-50 recruit in the state of Texas and chose A&M over offers from Texas, Alabama and Oklahoma, among others.

He was rated by 247 Sports as a four-star recruit as a transfer, as well. He’ll join a Texas offensive line that lost a number of players to the transfer portal and a couple to the NFL draft.

Texas is ranked by 247 as having the No. 2 transfer portal class this offseason. With commitments from Newman, Auburn wide receiver Cam Coleman and NC State running back Hollywood Smothers, the Longhorns appear to have bounced back after some big losses earlier in the portal period.
