El Paso County sheriff’s deputies arrested longtime KLAQ-95.5 FM rock radio host Buzz Adams for allegedly being in possession of drugs and a weapon while driving while intoxicated over the weekend, a sheriff’s spokeswoman confirmed.

The “Buzz Adams Morning Show” has been a humorous, longtime staple of El Paso morning radio. Adams has continued to be on the air this week. KLAQ management declined to comment.

Adam’s attorney, Justin Underwood, said in a message that he will address Buzz’s situation on his client’s radio show at 7:30 a.m. Friday. Adams could not be reached for comment.

Adams, legal name Michael Earl Witt, 58, was arrested during a traffic stop about 10:40 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 10, in the 300 block of West Vinton Road in Vinton, sheriff’s spokeswoman Priscilla I. Contreras said on Wednesday, Jan. 14.

During the stop, deputies allegedly spotted “suspected narcotics” in plain view inside the vehicle and asked the driver to exit, according to a statement from the Sheriff’s Office. Deputies located a firearm, less than a gram of an undisclosed controlled substance and less than two ounces of marijuana.

Contreras said she did not immediately know what was the controlled substance Adams was allegedly in possession. Further details on the charges were also not immediately available.

Adams was arrested on charges of driving while intoxicated, unlawful carrying of a weapon, possession of a controlled substance and possession of marijuana, the Sheriff’s Office stated.

He was booked into the El Paso County Jail under a $6,600 bond. Jail records no longer show him in custody.
