AUSTIN, Texas — An early morning shooting on January 12, 2026, has left one man dead, marking Austin’s fifth homicide of the year.

The victim, identified as 40-year-old Seferino Hernandez-Perez, was found unconscious and not breathing on Middle Fiskville Road.

Austin Police Department officers responded to a shots fired call at approximately 5:27 a.m. in the 1100 block of S. Meadows Drive, according to a press release from the department.

Upon arrival, officers did not locate anyone involved in the shooting. Homicide detectives and crime scene specialists collected evidence, including shell casings, from the scene.

At 6:08 a.m., Austin 9-1-1 received a report of an unconscious person at 9806 Middle Fiskville Road, who was later identified as Hernandez-Perez.

The Austin Police Department is urging anyone with information to contact them at 512-974-TIPS. Tips can also be submitted anonymously through the Capital Area Crime Stoppers Program by visiting austincrimestoppers.org or calling 512-472-8477. A reward of up to $1,000 may be available for information leading to an arrest.
