Lubbock Police Department (LPD) has asked the public once again for assistance in the 2023 cold case that left one person dead.
Lubbock Cold Case Unsolved After 3 Years
According to a press release from January 13, LPD first responded to a call at the 1900 block of Avenue M early in the morning at 5:29 a.m. due to reports of shots fired.

When officers arrived, they located 40-year-old David Perez who had a visible gunshot wound in his side. He was then sent to University Medical Center with serious injuries via an ambulance where he later died.
Investigators discovered that Perez was in the back of the residence when an unknown suspect entered the home and shot him.
At the time, LPD was offering the public a reward of $5,000 for anyone with information on the suspect to step forward with an anonymous tip.

Just days after Perez was shot and killed, LPD released an image of a black sedan that was seen in the area where the shooting was reported.
As of January 14, 2026, Perez’s murderer remains at large.
How to Submit a Tip in Lubbock
To be eligible for any reward that leads to the capture of wanted individuals, you can submit an anonymous tip to the Lubbock Crime Line at (806) 741-1000.
Emergencies should always be reported by calling 9-1-1.
