SAN ANTONIO (KTSA News) — A slight increase in gas prices has San Antonio still in a decent place when compared to where prices were at last year.
Over the last week, the average price for a gallon of regular unleaded has gone up 10 cents to $2.42.
The statewide gas price average in Texas is $2.42 per gallon for regular unleaded fuel, according to the AAA Texas Weekend Gas Watch. That price is the same when compared to this day last week and is 27 cents less per gallon compared to this day last year.
“January usually gives drivers a break because demand is down and winter-blend gasoline costs less to produce,” said Daniel Armbruster, AAA Texas spokesperson. “While prices are stable right now, global factors like geopolitical tensions are something markets continue to watch, as they can influence oil prices over time.”
Of the major metropolitan areas surveyed in Texas, drivers in Corpus Christi are paying the most on average at $2.62 per gallon while drivers in the Lubbock area are paying the least at $2.20 per gallon.
The national average price for a gallon of regular unleaded is $2.84, which is two cents more when compared to this day last week and 25 cents less when compared to this day last year.
Gas prices are usually lower in January as demand for motor fuel eases after the holidays and refiners continue producing cheaper winter-blend gasoline. Meanwhile, crude oil prices remain relatively low, though markets are closely monitoring tensions involving Iran, a key OPEC member and major global oil producer. Any disruption to Iran’s oil infrastructure could quickly ripple through global markets and eventually impact prices at the pump in the U.S.
