In 2018, Lubbock County voters approve an increase in the Hotel Occupancy Tax in order to pay for new Expo Center. After years of little to no movement and with questions asked about where the Expo Center should be located. It appears as though there is some movement.
Lubbock County Commissioners Could Approve Plans in January
According to a report from KAMC, on January 14th, the oversight committee known as the LGC approved a resolution for a new design and cost of the Expo Center and where it would be located.
According to KAMC, the resolution approved $375,000 for design work. It also approved the 80 acre location off the north loop for the Expo Center. The resolution also called for $32 million from the HOT tax to be used on the project along with $67 million from private donations.

During the meeting the idea of moving the location to Downtown Lubbock was brought up but dismissed by most of the board. Questions also remain about how much the board has actually raised in funds.
According to KAMC, Lubbock County Commissioners could vote to move forward with the plans at their next meeting on January 26.
