Drivers across North Texas are being urged to plan ahead as two major road closures are expected to cause significant delays this weekend, according to the Texas Department of Transportation.

TxDOT warns traffic could be especially bad from 10 p.m. Friday until 5 a.m. Monday, when portions of Interstate 30 near downtown Dallas will be completely shut down in both directions between Interstate 35E and Interstate 45.

One way around the mess is to take Woodall Rodgers Freeway between Uptown and Downtown, but if everyone else has the same idea, the fastest route may be to cut through Downtown or The Cedars.

The work along I-30 is part of an ongoing improvement project expected to be completed in 2030.

Another major closure will affect drivers in Hurst beginning Friday night. All westbound lanes of State Highway 121/183 will be closed at Norwood Drive starting at 8 p.m.

Crews will be demolishing the pedestrian bridge over the highway at Hurstview Drive as part of an improvement project. During the closure, traffic will be redirected into the westbound TEXpress lanes at no cost.
