Anime Mundo Brings El Paso’s Biggest Nerd Party to Life
Anime fans across the Borderland gathered for one of the most electric weekends El Paso fandoms have seen in a while as Anime Mundo took over the city! The massive anime convention transformed the venue into a paradise for geeks, gamers, and cosplayers alike. From the moment you stepped inside, it was pure chaos in the best way possible, packed with incredible vendors, colorful costumes, and fans showing off their love for anime and pop culture.
Even if you’re not the anime superfan you once were in high school, it was impossible not to get caught up in the energy. Everywhere you looked, you saw passion. Classic characters like Goku and heroes from Yu Yu Hakusho roamed the halls, while others took creative spins dressing as pop culture icons like Ash from The Evil Dead. It didn’t matter what fandom you were from, Anime Mundo was the ultimate celebration of all things nerdy but, of course, anime was the star!
Merch, Mayhem, and the Ultimate Fan Experience
What’s an anime con without merch? Anime Mundo had aisles and aisles of booths stacked high with collectibles, plushies, figures, and yes, more than a few tables filled with over-the-top anime art. You could grab everything from replica swords straight out of your favorite series to rare figurines that would make any collector jealous. The vibe was equal parts chaotic and amazing, the kind of atmosphere where you might walk in for a T-shirt and leave with a full cosplay outfit and a sword you didn’t know you needed.
And the fun didn’t stop there. Anime Mundo had a lineup of panels, meet-and-greets, and even some unexpected surprises, like a quirky vendor that let you experience a rainforest and hold a real baby alligator. Only at an anime convention could you go from meeting voice actors to cradling a gator in under ten minutes.
Legendary Voice Actors Steal the Show
Of course, the biggest draw for many fans was the incredible lineup of voice actors. Anime Mundo brought some serious talent to El Paso. Marty Grabstein, the voice of Courage the Cowardly Dog, stole the show for anyone who grew up watching Cartoon Network, bringing a wave of nostalgia that hit everyone right in the childhood.
But it didn’t stop there, the Dragon Ball Z legends were in the building! They included:
Sean Schemmel, voice of Goku in the English dub.
Sonny Strait, long-time voice of Krillin in the English dub.
René García, the Spanish-language voice of Vegeta in the Latin American dub.
Linda Young, the female voice actor who originally voiced Frieza in early English-language dubs.
Each of them got thunderous cheers from lifelong fans. Modern anime was equally represented too, with stars from Attack on Titan, Demon Slayer, and more taking the stage. Zack Aguilar, the voice of Tanjiro Kamado from Demon Slayer, drew one of the biggest crowds of the weekend, with a line that stretched all the way into the main lobby.
