EL PASO, Texas (KFOX14/CBS4) — Deputies arrested a 37-year-old man for dumping trash in a deserted area in Far East El Paso County after his truck got stuck while driving away from the area.

According to the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office, on Friday, James Sheets was arrested near the Snohomish Loop, close to Red Sands, after deputies reportedly saw him trying to unstuck his pickup truck from the desert.

Deputies described seeing a large pile of broken branches, rocks, bricks and dirt on the ground behind the trailer his truck was hauling.

After an investigation, deputies accused Sheets of dumping the debris, which was reportedly over 1,000 cubic feet, in the desert, but then his truck got stuck before he could make his getaway.

Jail records show Sheets was charged with illegal dumping and jailed under a $3,000 bond.

According to jail records, Sheets was released Saturday after posting a surety bond.
