Early voting began today (Monday, Oct. 20) in an election that will decide whether to increase the city’s hotel occupancy tax rate to pay for a venue project including Civic Center and Community Center remodeling and streetscape improvements.

Also on the ballot are 17 proposed amendments to the state constitution.
The location for early voting and Election Day voting in Port Aransas is at William R. “Bill” Ellis Memorial Library at 700 W. Ave. A.
Folks may cast early voting ballots from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. today through Saturday, Oct. 25.
The polling place will be closed on Sunday, Oct. 26. Early voting resumes the following day. The voting hours will be 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday to Wednesday, Oct. 27 to 29.
Hours will be expanded on Thursday and Friday, Oct. 30 and 31. On those days, the polling place will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Oct. 31 is the last day of early voting.
Election Day voting will be conducted from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 4.
Parking could be a little tough at the library because a lot of construction is happening next-door, at City Hall and the Civic Center. Spaces likely will be easy to find at a large city-owned parking lot on Port Street, about one block west of the library.

More information on the issues on the ballot can be found in the Oct. 16 edition of the South Jetty, available on news stands all over Port Aransas and online at www.portasouthjetty.com.
