It’s been 328 days since San Antonio temperatures last dipped to 32 degrees or colder, with the most recent freeze day occurring on Feb. 22, 2025. That streak could finally come to an end this weekend, courtesy of a strong cold front sweeping through Texas on Friday.
The coldest air won’t arrive until late Saturday night, but it could bring a brief freeze to the San Antonio metro area. To the north, including much of the Hill Country, a likely hard freeze could affect indoor and outdoor plumbing. Here’s an overview of what you can expect this weekend.
Friday’s forecast
Another chilly start is expected across South-Central Texas on Friday, similar to what we’ve seen over the past few days. Temperatures are expected to sit in the lower 40s in San Antonio between 4 and 8 a.m., rising to 50 degrees by 9 a.m.
Before the cold front arrives, you can expect warm weather through the middle of the day. San Antonio temps will reach 60 degrees by 11 a.m., likely touching the 70-degree mark by around 1 p.m. Afternoon temps are expected to peak at 72 degrees in San Antonio, just before the cold front plunges through the city by 3 p.m.

Upon the front’s arrival, temperatures will likely drop into the 50s by 6 p.m. Winds will turn gusty, coming in from the north at 15 to 20 mph. Temps will drop into the 40s after midnight, eventually sinking to the lower 40s early Saturday.
When will temps fall below freezing?
With northeast winds continuing to blow in at 10 to 15 mph, temperatures will stay below average all day Saturday. Temps will top out only in the mid-50s under partly cloudy skies. An isolated shower remains possible, especially south of San Antonio, but rain chances will be quite low.
From late Saturday to early Sunday, San Antonio is likely to experience a brief freeze. Temperatures could approach the freezing mark by 3 or 4 a.m, before bottoming out at 30 to 31 degrees by 6 or 7 a.m. Sunday.

San Antonio will only drop below freezing for a couple of hours, so big hazards are not expected. However, it’ll still be a good idea to bring in potted plants, as well as drain or insulate exposed, outdoor pipes and faucets.
The Hill Country, though, will fall below freezing for a longer period, dipping below 32 degrees by 10 p.m. Saturday and staying below freezing for nearly 12 hours. Overnight temps in Kerrville and Fredericksburg are expected to reach as low as 21 to 23 degrees. Here, it’ll be important to drip indoor faucets to prevent frozen pipes, and to open cabinet doors under sinks to improve air circulation.
Temps warming quickly
After the frigid start on Sunday, temperatures will rebound quickly under bright sunshine. San Antonio will rise into the 40s by 9:30 a.m. and reach 50 degrees just after 11 a.m. Afternoon temps are expected to hit the upper 50s to lower 60s as winds shift direction and come in from the south.
Monday will feature a chilly start for the MLK March. Morning temps in the upper 30s will rise to 50 degrees by 10 a.m. Afternoon highs are expected to reach the mid- to upper 60s under partly cloudy skies.
By Tuesday, yet another cold front will approach the region, likely limiting afternoon temps to the 50s. This front may also bring a chance of showers by Tuesday night, with rain chances rising to 30% to 40% on Wednesday.
