LUBBOCK, Texas — The Lubbock County Sheriff’s Office has announced the passing of K9 Arlo, a Belgian Malinois who served the county since 2021. K9 Arlo, born in 2018, was a dual-purpose dog specializing in offender apprehension and narcotics detection.
K9 Arlo was assigned to the Texas Anti-Gang Center with his handler and was involved in numerous narcotics operations, contributing to the safety of Lubbock County. At seven years old, he was the oldest active duty working dog in the department and was expected to retire soon, according to the Lubbock County Sheriff’s Office.
On October 28, 2025, during a routine training exercise, K9 Arlo suffered a medical emergency and was rushed to an emergency veterinarian, but he unfortunately passed away. A private honor walk was held on October 30, 2025, at the request of his handler, conducted by the Lubbock County Sheriff’s Office K9 Unit. K9 Arlo has been transferred to a specialist for an examination to determine his exact cause of death and will be cremated and returned to his handler.
The Lubbock County Sheriff’s Office has not yet set a date for K9 Arlo’s final resting ceremony, but arrangements will be announced as more information becomes available.
