ARLINGTON, Texas — The City of Arlington has activated its Homeless Emergency Weather Shelter Plan from 8 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 17 to 8 a.m. Sunday, Jan. 18, 2026, due to freezing temperatures. The Salvation Army will serve as a temporary inclement weather shelter for homeless individuals, according to a press release from the Office of Communication.

The shelter, located at 712 West Abram St., will accept individuals from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m. on Jan. 17, with check-out by 8 a.m. on Jan. 18. Exceptions for check-in will be made for drop-offs by the Arlington Police Department after hours. The site can accommodate up to 30 individuals, and breakfast will be served.

If The Salvation Army reaches capacity, the First United Methodist Church at 407 N. Mesquite St. will serve as an overflow shelter, accommodating up to 20 individuals. Intake times and check-out procedures will mirror those of The Salvation Army, with similar exceptions for police drop-offs.

All Arlington Public Library locations will be open for warming during standard operating hours, excluding holidays. Additionally, the Arlington Animal Services Shelter, located at 1000 SE Green Oaks Blvd., will accept pets of homeless individuals as capacity allows.
