Joy Udoye slammed 15 kills, Mya Cheatum added 13 and Katelyn Hughes doubled up with 17 assists and 14 digs as Cedar Park volleyball claimed the District 25-5A championship with an impressive road sweep of second-place Liberty Hill 25-17, 25-20, 25-22.

And joining Cedar Park as Austin-area district champions with wins last week were Austin High in 26-6A, Round Rock in 25-6A, Georgetown in 23-5A, Anderson in 24-5A, Wimberley in 26-4A and Lago Vista in 25-4A. District play around Central Texas wraps up this week with the UIL state playoffs beginning next week.

District 25-6A: Round Rock pummeled McNeil 25-10, 25-7, 25-11 behind Aubree Connelly’s 10 kills. Freshman libero Isa Cordaway-Dreier served five aces and had 11 digs while Kerington Thornton was solid in the middle with 11 kills and two blocks. Nila Beauchamp had 19 assists, Aubrey Goode added 17 the district champion Dragons. … Hutto swept Manor, Cedar Ridge beat Westwood and Stony Point had a huge 25-11, 21-25, 25-22, 23-25, 15-9 win over Vista Ridge as Taliah Angwekwe had 21 kills and Iyanna Herzog had 11 kills and 25 digs. The Tigers managed 91 digs in the five-set victory, including double-digit digs from Aubree Bagley, Lexi Boyer, Addison Deba and Kierra Hernandez.

District 26-6A: Riley Malloy ripped 19 kills in Austin High’s sweep of Lake Travis last Tuesday, then came back with 12 more kills Friday as the Maroons claimed the district crown with a 25-9, 25-21, 25-7 sweep of Akins. Camille Presley added eight kills while Maggie McCaroll and Claire Nelson had five each. McCarroll added 17 assists. … Westlake beat Dripping Springs in five sets last Tuesday, 22-25, 25-22, 25-17, 19-25, 15-10 and then swept Bowie on Friday 25-17, 25-14, 25-18. … And Dripping Springs appears to be peaking at the right time for the playoffs; the Tigers beat highly-regarded Lake Travis 21-25, 25-20, 26-24, 25-16.

Around Class 5A

District 23-5A: Georgetown swept Hendrickson behind Mallory Miller’s 15 kills and 16 digs and Florida-bound Amelia Albright’s 30 assists and 14 kills.

District 24-5A: Anderson had a tough five-set 27-29, 25-15, 25-15, 16-25, 15-11 win over Ann Richards behind Kate Leakey’s huge match: 23 kills, 10 digs, two blocks and four aces. Piper Poage added 10 kills and 10 digs for the Trojans while Chloe Frizzell had nine kills and six digs, Elaine Harrison had 45 assists and Bailey Santos chipped in 23 digs. Anderson has a two-match lead over Bastrop heading into Tuesday’s match against the Bears.

District 25-5A: Cedar Park beat Liberty Hill twice during district play after beating the Panthers in the regional finals last year. The Timberwolves then beat Leander in four sets as Cheatum and Udoye each had 14 kills while Sienna Benavides ripped 13 kills on 21 attempts with no hitting errors. Katelyn Hughes had 29 assists and Sibley Oster had 18. “I am really happy with the match,” Udoye said. “This was one of our first senior goals.” … Liberty Hill rebounded by sweeping Hays; Hannah Griffin smacked 11 kills and served four aces and had 12 digs for the Panthers. … Glenn’s balanced offense overcame a first-set loss in a 17-25, 25-13, 25-22, 25-20 win over Lehman. Jennah Lee led the Grizzlies with 17 kills, Aviana Mack added 15 and Milan Benavides finished with 10 kills, 13 digs and four aces.

Around Class 4A

Wimberley remains perfect: Wimberley swept Fredericksburg 25-16, 25-15, 25-11 behind 12 kills from Lilli Sandoval and 13 assists from Skylar Herring. Ashton Shipman had 16 digs for the Texans (39-5, 8-0), who are on the road this week at Bandera and Canyon Lake.
