Jerk roasted lamb shank at Pangea in Garland. Hopefully we’ll see this on the new Dallas menu.

This is not a drill. After five years serving upscale Southern eats at his restaurant Pangea, chef Kev Ashade closed his Garland spot with little notice in January 2025.

We all thought his creative global flavors had gone to the grave until this week.

This weekend, chef Ashade shook the city in one statement: “Pangea Dallas is officially on the way. A renewed concept inspired by global cultures, flavors, and connection — all under one roof.”

Pangea Dallas will reopen at 1910 Pacific Avenue in Downtown Dallas in the coming weeks.

In an Instagram video, chef Ashade shares a clip of the Pangea Dallas sign right next to a plaque that reads “Pacific Place” with the address above it. It’s quick, but if you pause it at the right time, it’s easy to spot.

The Pacific Place business center shares a block Club Vivo, Kitchen + Kocktails and the Majestic Theater.

Chef Ashade

Chef Kev Ashade, a graduate of the Culinary Institute of America, grew up cooking with his African mother and his best friend’s Jamaican parents in Texas, but he’s worked in New York and lived in England, Spain and Nigeria.

Consider all that with his French technique, and you can understand why he named his restaurant after the 200-million-year-old supercontinent.

One of his career highlights was being crowned the winner of Beat Bobby Flay in 2016. His winning dish was coq au vin, which was his most popular dish at the original Pangea.

We’d bet it will be brought to Pangea 2.0, which chef Ashade says will be thoughtfully reimagined in its new home. Keep up with more updates on Pangea’s Instagram account.
