AUSTIN – The Texas A&M women’s basketball team fell to the No. 4 Texas Longhorns, 80-35, in the Cotton Holdings Lone Star Showdown at the Moody Center Thursday.
The Maroon & White (8-6, 1-4 SEC) was paced by Janae Kent who had 16 points to lead the team and Ny’Ceara Pryor who recorded four steals on the defensive end of the court.
The Aggies played to a 6-6 tie after 4:48 minutes of action, but the Longhorns (19-2, 4-2 SEC) went on an 8-0 run that gave them a 14-6 advantage with 2:15 remaining in the first frame. Texas A&M cut the lead to six, 16-10, by the end of the period thanks to a pair of steals from Pryor and four points in the first 10 minutes.
Kent had six points in the second quarter and Lemyah Hylton hit a 3-pointer to keep the game within six at one point in the frame. However, Texas slightly pushed the lead to 10 heading into the locker room, 34-24. The Aggie defense forced the Longhorns to shoot 0-of-10 from beyond the arc in the first half.
The Longhorns took control of the ball game in the third quarter, outscoring the Maroon & White by 20 in the frame, 57-27. Texas took that lead into the fourth and ended the contest with an 80-35 score.
The Aggies return home Thursday, Jan. 22 to take on No. 6 LSU at 8 p.m. inside Reed Arena.

Pryor eclipsed the 2,000-point mark for her career and became just the sixth player in NCAA history to record 2,000 points, 500 assists and 400 steals in a career.
Scored a team-high 16 points and went 5-of-6 from the free-throw line.
