The fire left a massive hole in the home’s roof and the chimney knocked over, officials said, but no one was home at the time of the fire.
FORT WORTH, Texas — Fort Worth firefighters responded to a major fire at a home early Sunday morning in the Southside area, officials said.
According to the Fort Worth Fire Department, crews were called to the fire at about 5:24 a.m. in the 1800 block of St. Louis Avenue. The first unit was on scene three minutes later, and found a heavy fire moving through the back of the one-story home toward the front. It was also threatening a neighbor’s home.
Firefighters attacked the fire offensively while searching for anyone inside, officials said. After about 20 minutes, firefighters evacuated and turned defensive, fighting the flames from outside as the roof appeared unstable. Photos of the fire show a massive hole in the roof where flames were coming from.
After almost 40 minutes, FWFD said the fire was declared under control. But firefighters also had to knock over the chimney, which was leaning in the center of the house, to remove it as a hazard.
A neighbor’s home was also damaged, officials said, but was prevented from spreading.
No one was inside the home at the time of the fire, FWFD said, and no injuries were reported.
FWFD is investigating the cause of the fire.
