Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Dallas, which has administrative offices in Old East Dallas, has a new CEO.
By unanimous vote of the board of directors, Brian Slye is taking the lead role at BGCD, the organization that offers programming to children after school and during breaks from school. The decision was made effective Jan. 5.
Slye worked at AT&T in various roles for more than 18 years and then had an over one-and-a-half-year stint at Goosehead Insurance Agency as vice president of franchise development before landing his role at BGCD, according to his LinkedIn profile. He’s a board member of Spring Valley Athletic Association that gives Richardson ISD and North Dallas children opportunities to play sports. He has an MBA from Southern Methodist University, and he earned his bachelor’s degree at Texas Tech University.
He was also a “Club kid” in Burkburnett, near the Texas-Oklahoma border.
“I am honored to join Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Dallas and build on its 60-year legacy of serving North Texas youth,” Slye said in a press release. “The Clubs play a vital role in our communities by providing a safe, supportive place between school and home where kids can learn, grow and thrive. I look forward to working alongside our dedicated staff, board, partners and supporters to expand our impact and ensure even more young people have the opportunities they deserve.”
Previously, Debra Taylor served as interim president and CEO at BGCD for a year. Taylor is sticking around to be chief operations and strategy officer, according to her LinkedIn profile.
“Brian is a proven leader with the vision, discipline and heart needed to lead Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Dallas into its next chapter,” Board Chairperson Julie Jennings said in the press release. “His experience growing organizations and building strong partnerships will be instrumental as we expand access to critical youth development services for families across our region.”
Another East Dallas-headquartered organization that aims to help children also welcomed new leaders. The board of directors for Dallas CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates for kids in foster care), which has an office on the west end of Swiss Avenue, has chosen a new board chairperson.
The new chairperson is Janice Z. Davis, who is a corporate and transactional attorney and partner at Haynes Boone, according to a press release. Her credentials and commitments include a law degree from Baylor University and service as president of the Dallas Bar Association, as an adjunct professor of business law at SMU and as a Broadway Dallas board member.
Most importantly, Davis joined the Dallas CASA board in 2013 and is a sworn volunteer advocate. She recently advocated a years-long case for four siblings who were all under age 10 when they came into foster care and hadn’t attended school, according to the press release. The children were recently sent to live with their uncle permanently.
CASA’s board also elected its executive committee and three new board members.
