LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) – The Lubbock Cooper Lady Pirates (13-8, 5-4) are the Hoop Madness Team of the Week after defeating ranked Palo Duro 58-51 at home this past Friday.
The Lady Cats have two ranked matchups in a row, playing arguably their best basketball of the season as they head into the last few games of district play. Lubbock Cooper had a tough stretch in the early parts of December, but since then have won five out of their last seven games.
In the game against Palo Duro the Lady Pirates in some ways beat Palo Duro at what they do best. Over a large portion of the season the Lady Dons had held teams under 40 points consistently, but Lubbock Cooper managed to exclipse that number while also holding Palo Duro to only 51 points.
Lubbock Cooper Head Coach Jaden Isler has praised his teams improvement on the defensive end as of late, and that was evident in their win over the Lday Dons on Friday, earning them the Hoop Madness Team of the Week title.
Lubbock Cooper now sits in 5th place in 5A Region I District 3 with seven games left to go in the season as they try to put together a late run at the end of the season.
Up next, the Lady Pirates get the chance at a rematch against Coronado, traveling to take on the Mustangs Tuesday, Jan. 20 at 6 p.m.
