LOS ANGELES – The LMU women’s tennis team battled across the lineup but fell 4–0 to undefeated Houston on Saturday morning at the LMU Tennis Center, as the Cougars secured the doubles point and earned three singles victories to clinch the match.
The Lions opened the match with a competitive showing in doubles play. Lidia Gonzalez and Sofia Perovani picked up a 6–2 victory at No. 2 doubles to give LMU momentum early, but Houston answered with narrow wins on courts one and three to claim the doubles point.
LMU continued to push in singles play, engaging Houston in several tight contests before the match was decided.
Houston earned its second point at No. 2 singles, followed by a straight-sets win on court three to extend the lead. The Cougars clinched the match at No. 6 singles, but multiple Lions remained locked in competitive battles across the remaining courts.
At the top of the lineup, Lidia Gonzalez was competing in a tightly contested match on court one when play was halted. Anastasia Bozova and Kim-Michaela Zahraj each pushed their singles matches deep, forcing deciding sets before they went unfinished after the clinch.
LMU continues its early-season stretch at home as the Lions gain valuable experience against strong nonconference opponents.
