It’s still several days off, but we want to make sure you have an early heads up! We’ll keep this page updated as conditions change.
HOUSTON — It’s still several days off, but we want to give you an early heads up on winter weather we could be dealing with this upcoming weekend. And because of what the models are showing, we’re issuing a Weather Impact Alert for Saturday into Sunday.
While confidence is still low this far out, meteorologists are closely monitoring the chance for a winter mix, including the possibility of rain transitioning to ice and snow across Southeast Texas. This setup does not guarantee winter weather, but the ingredients are there for it to occur if conditions line up.
The concern centers on two key components expected to move into the region:
When cold air and moisture overlap, even along the Gulf Coast, it can create the potential for winter precipitation, especially during the colder overnight and early morning hours when temperatures are expected to be the coldest.

By Sunday morning, temperatures could dip into the 20s, with a potential low near 29 degrees, while daytime highs may only reach the 40s. Forecast data shows much colder air across the state, with readings in the teens in North Texas, highlighting that much of Texas will need to keep a close eye on the forecast.
Forecast models currently show pink shading over parts of the region for Saturday into Sunday, indicating areas where rain could transition into ice. This is where a wintry mix could develop, including ice pellets and crippling freezing rain. Any accumulation of ice on the ground would lead to a complete shut down of travel. Â If ice accumulations are high enough, there may be significant impacts to the power grid as well.

It’s important to note this forecast is still 6 to 7 days away, so details will likely change. Meteorologists are not locking in specifics yet, but emphasize that the combination of cold air and incoming moisture is a classic setup that bears watching closely.  The timing could and likely will change, so it’s important check back on-air and online regularly.
