RIVER OAKS – Viola Charlea “Charlie” Vedder, age 83, passed away of natural causes in her home on Wednesday, January 14, 2026, in River Oaks, Texas. A memorial service will be held on Sunday, January 25, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. at First Christian Church Downtown, 612 Throckmorton Street, Fort Worth, Texas. Viola was born on April 21, 1942, in Cleburne, Texas, to Herschel T. and Ruth H. (Sanders) Vedder. She grew up with her family in Texas. Charlea spent most of her life in Texas but also lived for a short time in Kansas. She later moved to Pennsylvania, where she worked at the Pentagon, and then to Columbia, South Carolina, where she was employed at Fort Jackson. It was in South Carolina that she developed her love for the beach. After retiring in 2009, Charlea returned to River Oaks, Texas. She was known for her free-spirited and independent nature, her kind heart, and her devotion to her faith as a member of First Christian Church Downtown Fort Worth. Charlea cherished her church community and family deeply. She took great pride in her car, affectionately named “Snow White,” and cared for it meticulously. Charlea was known for her positive outlook and her memorable phrases, such as “God Love It” and “All the good and none of the bad.” She was never heard speaking ill of anyone, leaving a legacy of kindness and grace. Charlea was preceded in death by her parents, Herschel and Ruth Vedder; as well as her sister, Ruth Shipp. She is survived by her children, Mary Mason, Kristi Perkins and her husband, Greg, Adrian Park and his wife, Ronda, Angela Latimer and partner, Ameila, and William “Willie” Brown and his wife, Mariann. She also leaves behind 10 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; her sister, Jeanne Morrison and husband, Richard; and 11 nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the memorial fund at First Christian Church Downtown.
