SUNLAND PARK, N.M. (KFOX14/CBS4) — An official with the Gadsden Independent School District has been chosen to be part of a prestigious program designed to help prepare local leaders across the U.S. who work with children.
Guillermo Carmona, the director of communications for the GISD, is one of 80 who were chosen as a “fellow” in Class Four of the W.K. Kellogg Foundation Community Leadership Network.
The program brings together local 80 leaders from across the United States, including New Mexico, for 18 months.
Through workshops, talks and other activities, the program supports these local leaders in their growth to better serve the children and families in their communities.
According to GISD, Carmona has over 20 years of experience in public education, leads communications, community engagement, and media relations for the district, with they described as “one of the largest and most diverse school districts in southern New Mexico.”
The fellowship begins in Jan. 2026 and runs through mid-2027.

Meet Guillermo Carmona
According to the bio on WKKF,
For Guillermo, communication, trust and belonging are non-negotiable. He leads with a commitment to equity, community voice and strengthening systems so people can thrive.He serves as Director of Communications for Gadsden Independent School District, guiding districtwide strategy, crisis response and bilingual family engagement for more than 11,000 students. Guillermo has over two decades of experience as a principal, assistant principal, leadership coach and state-level contributor to education guidance in New Mexico, with a focus on instructional clarity, community partnership and cross-department alignment.He has supported statewide initiatives through NMPED and CES and is an active member of the NM Aspiring Superintendents Academy. Guillermo earned both his B.A. and M.A. degrees from New Mexico State University.Outside of work, he enjoys time with family, exploring local communities and supporting youth activities.
