LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) – LUBBOCK — A Lubbock police officer shot a man who fled from a domestic disturbance call Monday night, leaving the suspect hospitalized with serious injuries.
The Lubbock Metropolitan Special Crimes Unit is investigating the shooting that occurred near 18th Street and Ave. S.
Police were called to a domestic disturbance in the area at 9:31 p.m. Sunday.
LPD says , a responding officer saw two people outside a residence, and both ran from the officer.
The officer caught up to one person, a man, in a vacant lot in the 1900 block of 18th Street.
LPD says the man continued to evade the officer ignoring the officers commands.
During the encounter, the officer reacted to a threat to his safety and fired multiple rounds at the man.
The man suffered serious injuries and was transported to UMC.
A firearm that did not belong to the officer was recovered from the scene.
Other officers located the second person, a woman, in a separate location and took her into custody.
The Lubbock Police department plans to hold a news conference Monday, January 20th with details.
