A hazmat spill from an overturned truck shut down lanes on I-45 North in Houston, causing major delays during the morning commute.

HOUSTON — A hazmat spill is causing major traffic delays on I-45 North in Houston after an overturned pool cleaning truck spilled chemicals early Tuesday morning.

According to Houston TranStar, the crash happened at 6:39 a.m. I-45 Northbound at Cavalcade Street and involved two vehicles. Multiple lanes are shut down due to the crash.

According to the Houston Fire Department, a pool cleaning truck overturned, spilling chemicals from buckets inside the vehicle.

One person was taken to the hospital from the scene. No additional injuries were reported.

Fire officials say Texas Department of Transportation will be responsible for cleaning up the spilled chemicals before the scene can be fully cleared.

Drivers are urged to expect delays in the area as cleanup continues.
