LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) – A Lubbock Police officer shot a man who ran from a domestic disturbance call and posed a threat to the officer Monday night, leaving the suspect hospitalized with serious injuries.

The Lubbock Metropolitan Special Crimes Unit is investigating the shooting that occurred near 18th Street and Ave. S. Police were called to a domestic disturbance in the area at 9:31 p.m. Monday.

LPD reports a responding officer saw two people outside a home. Both people ran from the officer.

The officer caught up to one person, a man, in a vacant lot in the 1900 block of 18th Street. Investigators say the man continued to run from the officer, ignoring the officer’s commands.

According to a Lubbock Police news release, during the encounter “the officer reacted to a threat to his safety” and fired multiple rounds at the man.

The man suffered serious injuries. EMS took him to UMC.

A firearm that did not belong to the officer was recovered from the scene.

Other officers located the second person, a woman, in a separate location and took her into custody.

The Lubbock Police department plans to hold a news conference Tuesday with details.
