With the 2025-26 high school sports season ongoing, the El Paso Times will give readers a chance to vote to identify El Paso’s top athletes.

This week, readers voted for which El Paso Times‘ El Paso Children’s Hospital high school boy athlete had the best performance in wrestling, swimming and basketball.

Here are this week’s nominees:

Jayden Escobar, Bowie basketball. Escobar scored in double figures last week, including 27 points vs. Anthony.

Julian Banda, El Dorado wrestling. He took first in the 132-pound division at the Bowie Tournament.

Alexander Tapia, Franklin wrestling. Tapia defeated Coronado’s Alejandro Marin to place first at 120 pounds. Tapia is 42-6 this season.

Dimas Sosa, Franklin wrestling. Sosa won the 144-pound division with 10-8 decision vs. Jacaden Brown of Chapin. Sosa is 30-5 this season.

Derek Rojo, Hanks Wrestling. Rojo placed first at 126 pounds with a win vs. Coronado’s Jesus Ochoa. Rojo is 30-2 this season.

Sebastian Pedroza, Parkland wrestling. Pedroza won the 285-pound division with win over El Paso High’s Carlos Carbajal. Pedroza is 34-1 this season.

Cesar Chavez, Austin swimming. He broke the 50-yard free record in the District 1-4A meet with time of 24.73 seconds.

Samuel Rodriguez, Irvin swimming. He broke the 500-yard free record in the District 1-4A meet with time of 6:39.04 seconds.
