A winter storm watch has been issued by the National Weather Service for Dallas-Fort Worth, with impacts coming late this week and into the weekend.

The alert warns of hazardous winter weather, including snow, ice and freezing temperatures, in all of North and much of Central Texas. Freezing precipitation is expected to start Friday afternoon and continue through Saturday night.

“Dangerous” cold is also expected to last through Monday morning, with temperatures expected to drop to the single digits overnight in some parts of the region. Temperatures are not expected to rise above 32 degrees at DFW International Airport from 6 p.m. Friday until Monday afternoon.

The weather service warns that roads, particularly bridges and overpasses, will likely become dangerous as a result of the frozen precipitation. Ice accumulation on power lines may also result in outages. The Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT) said they expect sufficient power generation to limit wider issues.

Overnight lows in the teens could also become life-threatening, the weather service said, and could put unprotected livestock and pets at risk.
