The Lubbock Metropolitan Special Crimes Unit is investigating the shooting that occurred near 18th Street and Ave. S. Police were called to a domestic disturbance in the area around 9:30 p.m. Monday.

During a Tuesday afternoon press conference, LPD Chief Seth Herman said the officer saw 22-year-old Taylor Floyd-Sutton and a female victim walking in the area of 18th St. and Ave. U.

When the officer got out of his car, Floyd-Sutton ran and climbed a fence when the officer demanded him to stop. He didn’t and a chase began. He tried to hide in front of a nearby home and continued to run into a parking lot.

The officer continued to give commands when Sutton produced a semi-automatic handgun and turned toward the officer.

That’s when the officer, who’s been with LPD for the past two years, shot Sutton and then began life-saving measures. Sutton was taken to UMC with serious injuries. A gun not belonging to the officer was recovered from the scene.

Sutton, who is in critical condition in the hospital, was served a warrant on Tuesday for aggravated assault of a public servant with a bond set at $200,000.
