Paced by two goals from senior Ryan Garcia, the Princeton boys soccer team cruised to a 3-0 road victory over Prosper Rock Hill last Friday. Junior Ivan Olvera also scored in the win for Princeton, which improved to 2-0 in district play and 4-2 overall. The Panthers scored twice in the first half before adding a third goal after halftime.
Earlier in the week, Princeton started strong and never relented in a 3-0 triumph over Plano East at Jackie Hendricks Stadium.
The Panthers scored twice in the first 21 minutes to seize control. Junior Derek Mireles converted a penalty kick in the 16th minute after Olvera was fouled in the box. Freshman Brayan Ordonez made it 2-0 five minutes later, scoring in the 21st minute off a cross from freshman Aydin Franco.
Senior Aldo Longoria put the match out of reach with a goal with 3:59 remaining in the second half for a 3-0 Princeton lead.
Princeton also received a standout performance from senior goalkeeper Jonathan Sanchez, who made nine saves in the shutout victory.
On the girls’ side, Princeton was competitive in both matches last week, but the Lady Panthers were unable to find the back of the net in a 4-0 loss to Plano East, followed by a 1-0 setback to Rock Hill last Friday.
The lone goal against Rock Hill was scored in the first half. Princeton (1-5, 0-2) attempted to counter in the second half but was unable to find the equalizer.
The Panthers return to action Friday against McKinney.
