Living in Lubbock sort of recalibrates your definition of success. I don’t mean that in a bad way. All I’m saying is that around here, big wins are pretty rare. Tiny, stupid, deeply specific victories? Now, those are a constant.
Here’s a list of little things that feel a whole lot bigger than they should once you’ve lived here long enough.
 When The Wind Just…Stops
Even if it’s only a brief reprieve, or when it seems almost suspicious. For a moment, everything feels calm, your hair isn’t attacking your face, and you don’t have to fight with your car door like you’re in a WWE match.

Doesn’t matter where you are. Grocery store. Gas station. Target. But…especially Tech campus. Finding a spot by the door is a total friggin’ win. You’ll be living off that high the rest of the day.

Making it all the way around the loop without being stopped at all by construction cones or car accidents is a miracle. I remember that my exit was under construction on and off for two years, and it drove me nuts. If you can make it to your destination without taking a detour, congrats, you are winning.

I swear, one of the ladies makes better gravy than anyone else at the 98th and Quaker location. I get SO excited when I go in for biscuits and gravy and see her. Too excited, really… YUM.

Living in Lubbock doesn’t give you many big, dramatic wins…
But it gives you these tiny ones…which are quiet, weird, deeply satisfying moments that make you think, yeah…today didn’t completely beat my ass. And, that’s pretty alright with me.
