There is a new No. 1 team in The Dallas Morning News’ Class 6A area rankings for girls basketball.
After then-No. 1 Lancaster lost 64-59 to DeSoto on Friday, North Crowley takes over the top spot. It is well deserved, and not just because North Crowley is on a 14-game winning streak and has outscored its opponents by an average of 14.2 points per game on the season.
North Crowley has beaten reigning state champions Humble Summer Creek, Fort Worth Boswell and Denton Ryan, along with state-ranked Denton Braswell, Waco La Vega and Mansfield Lake Ridge. North Crowley also owns wins over five out-of-state opponents.
Lancaster falls one spot to No. 2 and Southlake Carroll remains at No. 3. Carroll (25-1, 11-0 District 4-6A) beat Keller Timber Creek 53-31 on Tuesday and clinched a playoff berth for the eighth straight year.
High School Sports
No. 4 Plano East (22-7, 10-0) has won eight in a row and leads District 6-6A by two games over Prosper Rock Hill. Sophomore superstar Arianna Robinson passed Tavy Diggs to become Plano East’s all-time leading scorer Tuesday, and Robinson now has 1,437 points in her first two seasons as she continues to show why she is the state’s No. 1 recruit in the Class of 2028.
Duncanville made a big jump this week, going from No. 10 to No. 5 after a 47-38 win over then-No. 5 Cedar Hill, last season’s 6A Division I state runner-up. Duncanville (19-7, 7-1) is tied with Lancaster for first place in District 11-6A, and those two teams will face off Jan. 30 at Lancaster after Lancaster won their first district meeting 77-27.
Argyle stays No. 1 in this week’s Class 5A-others area rankings after wins over Birdville and Richland. Argyle (24-4, 5-1) is one game behind District 6-5A leader Denton Ryan (25-4, 6-0).
Argyle remained in the top spot in The News’ rankings because it has beaten both Ryan (54-49 on Nov. 15) and Lincoln (56-45 on Dec. 2). Argyle also owns wins over state-ranked Southlake Carroll and Frisco Wakeland and area-ranked Frisco Memorial and Lovejoy.
