LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) – A Lubbock man will serve 10 years in state prison after violating the terms of his probation in a manslaughter case.
Julio Gutierrez was serving 10 years on supervised release after he pleaded guilty to manslaughter for the death of 29-year-old Thomas Richardson in 2022.
Court records show the two men got into a fight over spilled beer while they were playing video games. Prosecutors claimed Gutierrez chose to kill Richardson, his child’s godfather.
Judge Trey McClendon found Gutierrez violated the terms of his probation by buying beer at a liquor store.
