A worker has died after being crushed by a burial vault at a funeral home in North Texas, Dallas Fire-Rescue confirmed Monday.

The incident happened around 2 p.m. at Restland Funeral Home, located at 13005 Greenville Ave. in Dallas.

According to fire officials, the man was pinned from the waist down when first responders arrived. Though the department’s Urban Search and Rescue team was dispatched as a precaution, crews from the first arriving truck used spreaders and air bags— typically used in vehicle extrications— to lift the vault and free the worker.

He was taken to a nearby hospital with serious injuries to his lower body. Later Monday afternoon, officials confirmed the man had died.

His identity has not yet been released.

The cause of the accident remains under investigation.
