AUSTIN, Texas — The City of Austin partnered with the Del Valle Community Coalition to conduct a Flood Insurance Assistance Program to help homeowners in high-risk flood areas.

The pilot program offers up to $2,000 in financial aid for Austin residents to obtain or maintain flood insurance for one year.

To qualify, Austin residents must:

Own their home and live within the 100-year floodplainHave household income at or below 140% of the Median Family IncomeUse the funds to obtain, maintain or renew a flood insurance policy

Applications are available on the Del Valle Community Coalition website and will be processed on a first-come, first-served basis until Dec. 31, 2025. If approved, funds will be directly disbursed to insurance companies for policy payments.

Austin’s participation in the National Flood Insurance Program and FEMA’s Community Rating System allows residents to access federally backed flood insurance at a discount of up to 25%.

While the average annual flood insurance policy in Austin costs $670, those in floodplain areas often exceed $1,000. Flooding poses a significant financial risk, with the average flood insurance claim in Austin reaching $21,000 as of 2021.
