The Texas Longhorns have continued to reshape their 2026 roster through the transfer portal. We speculated Texas coach Steve Sarkisian would add a veteran quarterback to the roster. On Thursday, the Longhorns secured a commitment from veteran MJ Morris. While Arch Manning will be the starter barring injury, Morris brings valuable experience to the roster.Â
During his college career, Morris has played for three programs. That list includes NC State, Maryland, and Coastal Carolina. While gaining experience across different systems, the talented signal caller completed 186 of his 320 passing attempts. He has also recorded 20 passing touchdowns and 2,021 passing yards. As he has made headlines with his arm, Morris has also made an impact on the ground.Â
In his college career, the Georgia native has 146 rushing yards on 120 carries. He has also found the end zone twice on the ground and used his legs to keep plays alive. That aspect of his game has been a plus regardless of the program.Â
As Morris prepares to start a new chapter of his college career, he will take on a leadership role in an inexperienced quarterback room. The only other quarterbacks on the roster besides Manning are  KJ Lacey, who completed his only pass for seven yards last season, and incoming freshman Dia Bell. Given how much experience the former four-star recruit has, he is not a bad person to learn from.Â
Now that Morris has a home for the 2026 season, he can focus on fine-tuning certain areas of his game. That includes his decision-making and his consistency on the field. Having Manning as someone to turn to should prove beneficial.Â
