CANUTILLO, Texas (KFOX14/CBS4) — Josue Borrego, the new Canutillo Independent School District superintendent, is setting ambitious goals for his first year in office.

“My priority as a superintendent is to remove roadblocks across the district for our students to help them achieve at greater levels, to provide more opportunities,” Borrego said.

He envisions the district as an “economic mobility engine” for students, creating pathways for success beyond high school.

Borrego acknowledges the pressing issues facing the district, including financial challenges and the need for transparency with stakeholders.

“It’s not a secret that across the state, many districts right now are struggling just because of the different things happening with finances,” he said, expressing confidence in overcoming these challenges.

Safety is another top concern. Borrego highlighted the district’s proactive measures, including having a police officer on every campus and installing new security cameras.

“We take safety seriously,” he assured, emphasizing the district’s comprehensive approach to student safety.

Expressing gratitude for the opportunity, Borrego said, “I’m excited about some of the things that, you know, we’re going to put in place and I think we’re going to take it to even greater heights.”
