Last offseason, as the national media rushed to crown Arch Manning as the greatest quarterback of his generation, there was plenty of early predictions of a third Heisman Trophy at Texas. It didn’t work out that way in 2025. In hindsight, it wasn’t very realistic. But for 2026? If feels very realistic. USA TODAY Sports has tabbed Manning as one of the leading contenders next season.

Manning is one of seven leading Heisman candidates according to Austin Curtright of USA TODAY Sports. The seven aren’t listed in any order, but it’s an interesting roster of stars.

Way-too-early Heisman Trophy contenders:

Julian Sayin, QB, Ohio State

Jeremiah Smith, WR, Ohio State

Trinidad Chambliss, QB, Mississippi

Manning is light years ahead of where he was at the beginning of the 2025 season. His final four games showed the star potential the media thought would happen instantaneously. While it didn’t happen overnight, Manning has exhibited the proper attitude and work ethic to do his part in the Heisman process.
