El Paso Opera is bringing one of the most beloved operas ever written to life this winter, and La Bohème could not feel more timely.
Running January 30 through February 7 at the historic St. Rogers Depot, Puccini’s masterpiece tells a story that has endured for more than a century because it refuses to look away from reality. La Bohème is about young artists living on the margins, building chosen families, falling deeply in love, and trying to survive in a world that makes creation expensive and fragile. It is raw, intimate, and devastatingly human.
Puccini’s lush score captures that tension perfectly. Moments of joy burn bright, laughter spills easily, and love feels limitless, until life intervenes. This is not an opera about royalty or fantasy. It is about people who are broke, passionate, and trying anyway. That honesty is why La Bohème continues to resonate so powerfully, especially now.

El Paso Opera’s immersive production leans into that emotional closeness, placing audiences inside the story rather than at a distance. The January 30 opening night is essentially sold out, but great seats are still available for the remaining four performances, making this an ideal moment to catch the show.
New premium seating options elevate the experience even further, offering front-row placement along with sparkling wine, charcuterie, and dessert included with the ticket. The popular VIP Lounge also returns, enhancing both pre-show and intermission time. Performances are sung in Italian with English and Spanish supertitles, ensuring accessibility for a wide audience.
The cast features Ganson Salmon as Rodolfo, Danielle Talamantes as Mimì, Levi Hernandez as Marcello, and Jessica Sandidge as Musetta, supported by an accomplished ensemble and led by Music Director and Conductor Kyle Naig and Stage Director Helena Binder.
At its heart, La Bohème speaks to anyone who has ever tried to build a meaningful life with limited resources and a lot of heart. That story is not historical. It is happening every day, including right here in El Paso.
Tickets start at $62 plus fees and are available now at epopera.org.
