CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — A shooting incident on Ayers Street led to a deadly confrontation between police and a suspect on January 23, 2026. Officers with the Corpus Christi Police Department responded to the scene, where they found a male victim with multiple gunshot wounds who later died at a local hospital.

At 3:33 p.m., officers located the suspect’s vehicle on Agnes Street. During the attempt to detain the suspect, the individual produced a weapon and opened fire, prompting officers to return fire and strike the suspect multiple times. Two officers were shot and taken to a local hospital; one remains in critical condition while the other is stable. A third officer was injured by shrapnel and received on-scene medical treatment.

The 38-year-old male suspect is in stable condition at a local hospital and remains in custody. The involved officers have been placed on paid administrative leave, following department policy. The investigation is ongoing, and anyone with information is encouraged to contact the Corpus Christi Police Department Criminal Investigations Division or Crime Stoppers, according to a press release from the department.
